Coffee County Schools Selected as Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Grant Recipient
New Brockton Elementary School was chosen as a recipient of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program for the third consecutive year. Students are receiving fresh fruits and vegetables twice weekly during afternoon snack. The program is an effort to introduce students to a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables as a healthy snack option, create a healthier school environment by providing healthier food choices, expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience, increase children's fruit and vegetable consumption, and make a difference in children's diets to impact their present and future health.
This program is seen as an important catalyst for change in efforts to combat childhood obesity by helping children learn more healthful eating habits. The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program introduces school children to a variety of produce that they otherwise might not have had the opportunity to sample.
